2023

McLaren Vale Old Vine Grenache

TASTING NOTE:
Perfumed aromas of freshly picked red currants, garden-cut herbs, and crushed white peppercorns energize the nose. A complex floral perfume emerges from the glass with some aeration and time. The palate is weightlessly intense, perfectly balancing the traditionally riper notes of a Grand Cru style Grenache from the sandier soils of Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. Deep concentrations of flavours are well woven with sherbet-like acidity, giving the wine life, enthusiasm, and potential for long-term cellaring. Drink now to 2043.

“Fermented naturally and matured in old French oak, this is a masterclass in expressing the Blewitt Springs perfume and delicacy.”

- Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

2023

McLaren Vale Old Vine Shiraz

TASTING NOTE:
This statement-style Shiraz is elevated by immense complex aromas of black olives, plums, ground peppercorns, and fresh-cut boot leather. The age of the vines and foudre élevage tease out deeper aromatic complexities, drawing in elements of provincial wild herbs and black truffles. Densely concentrated tannins and texture bring out the best on the midpalate, leaving a long-lasting finish of savoury and earthy flavours. With perfectly formed tannins, this wine is destined to cellar for the next 30 to 40 years.

“With notes of mulberry, aniseed, pressed flowers and a subtle notion of mint, it is perfumed and structured, with a finely milled texture.”

- Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

2024

Margaret River Chardonnay

TASTING NOTE:
Defined by a warmer, rapid vintage, the wine bursts with aromas of figs, cashews, ground oats, and ruby grapefruit. The medium-toasted French barriques blend in beautifully, effortlessly teasing out an evolving perfume of vanilla, beeswax, and fresh-cut Parmigiano Reggiano. Light in texture yet full in flavour, the generous liquid wraps gracefully around the palate, providing endless enjoyment. Drink now to 2038.

“Crushed nuts and white flowers, green apple, white pineapple/pineapple husk, yellow peach and brine… The acidity tastes juicy and ripe, threaded through the fruit.”

- Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

“New kid on the block Edward McDougall is not new at all, but the suite of super-premium single-vineyard wines under his eponymous label are, and I was lucky enough to be the first to see these wines-brilliantly eloquent wines that harness the old vineyards in McLaren Vale and Margaret River and expresses them in mostly seasoned French puncheons, the older, larger-format oak encouraging the fruit to enunciate its sense of place (and doing so with great sophistication).”
